Chasing the Northern Lights in Tromsø

May 12, 2026 · 6 min read

After years of dreaming about it, I finally made the trip to northern Norway in late February. The conditions were perfect — clear skies, strong solar activity, and temperatures hovering around -12°C. We drove about 40 minutes outside Tromsø to escape the city lights and set up on a frozen lakeside.

The aurora appeared around 10 PM, starting as a faint green arc and quickly exploding into ribbons of emerald and violet stretching across the entire sky. I shot at ISO 3200, f/2.8, 8-second exposure on my 14mm wide-angle — the results were better than I ever imagined.

If you're planning a similar trip, I'd recommend booking between late September and late March. Patience is everything — some nights we waited for hours with nothing, and other nights the show started within minutes.

The Best Street Food I Found in Bangkok

April 28, 2026 · 4 min read

Bangkok's street food scene is overwhelming in the best possible way. From the sizzling pad thai stalls on Khao San Road to the hidden som tum vendors in Chinatown, every corner has something incredible to try.

My top find was a tiny stall near Hua Lamphong station serving khao man gai (chicken rice) for just 50 baht. The chicken was impossibly tender, the rice fragrant with chicken fat, and the dipping sauce had the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spicy. I went back three times during my trip.

Pro tip: the best stalls usually have long lines of locals, not tourists. Follow the locals and you won't be disappointed.

5 Camera Settings I Wish I Knew Earlier

April 15, 2026 · 5 min read

When I started photography, I spent months in full auto mode, frustrated that my photos never looked like what I saw in person. Here are five settings that completely changed my shooting once I understood them.

First: shoot in RAW, always. The editing flexibility is worth the extra storage. Second: learn back-button focus — separating focus from the shutter button gives you so much more control. Third: use exposure compensation instead of switching to manual for quick adjustments.

Fourth: custom white balance makes a huge difference, especially in golden hour. And fifth: don't be afraid of high ISO on modern cameras — noise at ISO 6400 is very manageable with current sensors and denoising tools.
